Now, If you've ever wondered about this question, then you're not the only one.

When did the consequences for their unbelief in Numbers 14 Begin? Was it 38 more years of wandering or did their 40 years begin at Kadesh Barnea or does 38 years in this context have another meaning within the 40 years, because they're all argued for looking for a answer, no surprise.

Now What I found interesting enough to mention this is that 38 and 40 makes 78, and they all showed up in today's verses.

Was it 38 more years from Kadesh Barnea, when did the 40 year timeline begin?

I hadn't ever thought about this until now, giving this find a Special mention award for 38 being part of "the conversation".
